Handwoven antique chinese reed basket

This early 20th century chinese gathering basket is handwoven from reed and fitted with a bentwood handle. Traditionally used by farmers to carry food from the fields, it offers a window into everyday life in the Chinese countryside.

There are some ancient woodworm holes in the bentwood handle but these have been fully treated as a precaution. A few loose bits of binding to the top but this basket is generally in very good condition, for its age. Its size makes it perfect as a log basket or a blanket store.
