Beautiful Vintage French Grape picker's basket with fabric straps from the Provence region of France. Two wicker handles are situated on the top part of the basket and the basket is woven onto two wooden batons at the base, which raise the basket off the ground. The basket is in good condition and would make an excellent log basket.
These type of baskets were used to collect the grapes from the vineyard, ready for wine making. The vineyard workers would have filled the baskets with grapes and then used the straps to carry on their back. These straps are now purely decorative as due to their age, the leather at the ends wouldn't be strong enough to hold any great weight.
