Gorgeous Antique French Provencal Biot Jars/Jarres
Antique 19th Century French Provencal Biot Jarres/Pots in lovely condition.
These Biot Jarres are made from a mixture of red and grey terracotta clays to achieve the desired colour and are distinctive for both their classic shape and for the colourful drips of glaze, known as “mother-in-laws’ tears.” These distinctive drips occur when the glaze of one jar drips onto another jar during the firing process.
These pots originate from the South of France, named after the coastal village of Biot, near Cannes and traditionally used to store flour, preserves and olives. Beautiful patina all over both pots and they are suitable for use in the home or garden. In particular, they make magnificent Garden Planters.
