Gorgeous Antique French Provencal Biot Jars
Antique 19th Century French Provencal Biot Jars/Pot, in lovely condition. These Biot Jars/Jarres are made from a mixture of red and grey clays to achieve the desired colour and are distinctive for both their classic shape and for the colourful drips of glaze, known as “mother-in-laws’ tears.” These distinctive drips occur when the glaze of one jar drips onto another jar during the firing process.
These pots originate from the South of France, named after the coastal village of Biot, near Cannes, traditionally used to store flour, preserves and olives. Beautiful patina all over this pot which is suitable for use in the home or garden. Would make a magnificent planter.
Measurements: Height 56cm, Diameter top 40cm
