Amazing Antique 19th Century French Ciel De Lit, Gilded Bronze.

This is a stunning antique French bed canopy, ciel de lit, couronne dating from the mid 1800s. It has the original curtain clips and silk covering to the underneath. 

Despite the little missing piece from the central garland this is the most complete and original of these couronnes that I have seen for many years and in unbelievably good condition!

The wood frame is still strong and has minimal worm damage. Even the original timeworn fabric is tear and wear free. In its as found condition, the gilding has a genuine antique gold patina but could be polished to look like as shiny as it would have been when new. I just adore the swags of rose garlands around the edge which match the central wreath. There is one small piece  missing from the very front rose garland, on the right hand side but it is not too noticeable and does not detract from the absolute beauty of this wonderful, rare decorative item.
